Kenyan’s Drinkmates launches “social logistics engine” to facilitate connections

Kenyan startup Drinkmates has launched what it is calling a “social logistics engine” that facilitates spontaneous real-world meetups through real-time geospatial signaling.

Based in Nairobi, Drinkmates, which is available for download on the Google Play Store, is designed to eliminate coordination friction for urban professionals across Africa.

The app allows users to broadcast location-based intent – like “co-working in Kilimani” or “socialising in Westlands” to specific circles, enabling spontaneous meetups without the preamble of lengthy messaging threads.

The startup’s private beta in Nairobi validated the demand for high-intent social tools, recording a 100 per cent cohort retention rate over a six-week period.

“The existing social stack is optimised for digital engagement, but it’s remarkably inefficient at moving people through physical space,” said Eric Mutema, founder of Drinkmates. “We aren’t building another social network; we are building the logistics infrastructure for the real-world experience economy. By removing the friction of planning, we are making social connection effortless for Africa’s mobile-first workforce.”

Bootstrapped and built on a high-concurrency event-driven architecture, Drinkmates is positioning itself for a pan-African rollout. Following its initial Nairobi launch, the company intends to entrench its presence in Kenya before targeting expansion into other high-density social hubs like Lagos and Johannesburg.
